Professional Experience
2005-present Program Coordinator, Jornada Basin LTER, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM - Coordinating the design, development, and implementation of EcoTrends, a national program that obtains long-term ecological data from research sites across the US and makes them easily available for synthesis studies via a book (to be published) and a website (http://www.ecotrends.info/). Also coordinating the design, development, and implementation of the Pole to Pole Ecological Research Lattice of Sites (P2ERLS) project, an online portal to hundreds of ecological research sites around the globe (http://www.p2erls.net/).
Summer 2005 Data Manager, Institute of Natural Resources and Management (INRAM), Las Cruces, NM - Helped design a state-wide database for geographical data pertaining especially to natural resources.
Summer 2005 Ecology Technician, Jornada Experimental Range, USDA ARS, Las Cruces, NM - Conducted vegetation surveys in the southwest quarter of New Mexico. Databased vegetation and soil data collected during this project. Modified existing database to incorporate new variables.
2004-2005 Lab Technician, New Mexico State University, NM - Elucidated the copy number of MyoD family genes in the electric fish with standard DNA extraction, purification, primer amplification and southern blot techniques. Began evolutionary analysis of these genes among vertebrate taxa. Designed Dr. Unguez’s professional website (http://biology-web.nmsu.edu/unguez/).
2001-2004 Graduate Assistant, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM - Teaching: Taught botany, plant taxonomy, and introductory biology labs. NMC Herbarium: Mounted and filed specimens, prepared and distributed loan requests, trained new student help and collected new specimens. Oversaw transition of flat-file database to modern linked database, modified the database as appropriate for the herbarium and its users, trained all personnel on the use of the database. Research: Surveyed populations of the cactus Peniocereus greggi on White Sands Missile Range and NASA White Sands Testing Facility.
2000 Substitute Teacher, Mansfield Public Schools, Mansfield, CT - Taught children K-8 with an emphasis on science.
