Soil physical properties and the interaction of soil properties and plant community patterns and dynamics in arid ecosystems. Current areas of research include:
- Soil water dynamics and the effects of soil morphology on the spatial and temporal distribution of plant-available water in arid-land systems
- Road development and off-road vehicle in rangelands with emphasis on resistance and resilience of soils and vegetation to both direct and indirect impacts
